Students and parents protested in Gilgit-Baltistan against lack of teachers in primary and middle schools in Memosh Thing area of Kharming by blocking the Kargil highway.
According to the students and their parents, local people have been deprived of posts and teaching jobs are mostly given to those who live far off and for whom it is even difficult to travel everyday to school for their duty.This has hampered childrens’ education who have lost half of the year’s education. The protestors demand immediate action or else they would continue with their protest.The attitude of Pakistani federal government, regardless of the party in power, has always been perfidious and double dealing, so far as Gilgit-Baltistan is concerned.The high handed attitude adopted by the Pakistani authorities simply reinforces the perception that they are interested only in exploiting the rich natural resources of the region and looting the people in every conceivable manner without giving even a passing thought to their aspirations. Fed up with this blatant exploitation, the people are now exhibiting widespread resentment without fear of the inevitable reprisals that come in the form of illegal detentions and strange disappearances of those who protest.
