POGB: Asif Sakhi released after intense public protests

Pakistan Army’s construction company FWO (Frontier Works Organisation) had filed a FIR against political activist, Awami Workers Party leader, progressive political activist and former candidate Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Comrade Asif Sakhi. He was then arrested and kept in lock up. His arrest sent a wave of protest among the locals. Soon,AWP officials and political workers protested outside the police station against his arrest. On the other hand, activists on social media protested against the military company and the government for his arrest. Following this, Asif Sakhi was released from the police station.

According to reports, the Pakistani military company FWO was putting up signboards of its company on the lands owned by the local people on the China route in occupied Gilgit-Baltistan. Asif Sakhi had stopped their work by protesting against this action of the army, after which an FIR was filed against him on the request of the officials of the company. The company has come under heavy criticism by the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan. Asif Sakhi was released after intense public protest. After his release, Asif Sakhi has been taken to his ancestral home in the security of the locals.
